A Bright Day with Spring and Garden Wedding Favors
Spring is a popular time to get married, and deservedly so. The sun is shining, flowers are blooming, and there’s a feeling of newness to everything. What better time to strike out on a new adventure with the one you love?
One of the oldest traditions in weddings is the wedding favor, a gesture of appreciation from the bride and groom to their guests for attending the most important steps two people can take together. One of the most delightful instances of wedding favors come when the favors match the theme of the wedding.
There are a few questions you should ask yourself before you start looking for wedding favors. Some of these questions include: How many people will be attending? This will affect how much you will be able to spend on each person’s favors. How much do you want to spend on all the favors combined? It’s a good idea to pick a number ahead of time and really try to stick to it; otherwise you might end up spending much more than you wanted to. Do you want to give out one more expensive gift, or a few smaller gifts? Again, this is important to decide on ahead of time if you want to stay on budget. How important is the packaging/ presentation of the favors? Sometimes the gift bag or box can be almost as expensive as the gift itself, so try to plan ahead for that. Will the favors have a particular theme? Even if you don’t have a set theme, you might want to opt for something springy or garden-themed to suit the season. (Think flowers, butterflies, ladybugs, etc.)
Here are some ideas for affordable spring or garden wedding favors: decorative wildflower seed packets, flower-shaped candles, floral glass coasters, flower-shaped soaps, pressed flower bookmarks, miniature vases with flowers, floating butterfly tealight set. . . you get the idea. For presentation you might try little terra cotta pots or miniature watering cans to evoke a garden theme, or gauzy gift bags with floral details for a springy finish.
While creativity is encouraged, there are some items that should be avoided, depending on the guest list. If the wedding is a personal affair with the close friends and family of the betrothed, these issues might not be a problem; but in a large marriage ceremony with various acquaintances and diverse friends and family, it is best to avoid items that invoke politics or controversial personal preferences, and it may be preferable to avoid an overabundance of religious items. Of course, the circumstances of the wedding should be taken into account, and the religious nature of the ceremony is especially to be determined by the people involved. In general, hosts will want to keep spring wedding favors in the realm of the friendly and light-hearted; humor is often a welcome touch, but those with a dark or political sense of humor will want to take the varying tastes of their guests into account.
Thanks to modern movements, the internet has become a fantastic method of finding decorations and themes to suit even the pickiest of brides. But the wedding shop or bridal expo is still a tremendous source for most wedding planners. And as the audience to such an event, it is far more thrilling to attend such a wedding then to attend a simple as-is church wedding.
