Corporate Retirement Gifts Don’t Have to be Boring

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010
Retirement is a time of transition and new beginnings.  Before shopping for the perfect retirement gift, remember that the corporation will also be giving a gift as well.  Although possibly not as thoughtful or fun as the gift you want to give, following is a list of gifts that many corporations consider appropriate.

Items like:  desk clocks, pen sets, passport holders, paperweights, ornaments, company stock options, wall clocks, money clips, luggage and luggage tags, watches or jewelry items, grooming or manicure sets and of course any awards or plaques are all items that are pretty standard retirement gifts from corporations.  Although memorable and thoughtful, let’s face it, they are rather boring.  Plus they tend to collect dust somewhere or never get to see the light of day stored in a box.

In my personal opinion, corporations should try to honor the retiree with a gift that is not only memorable and appropriate, but is also something that can be proudly displayed and incorporated into their daily lives.  Items like:  picture frames, photo albums and barware or decanter sets can all be personalized for that extra special touch.  Best of all these items fit easily into people’s lifestyles, are truly memorable and will be used and displayed for many years to come.

If the retiree is from the military, there are lots of websites out there who sell many different items to honor those who have served.  Items like:  throw blankets or afghans, rings, watches, clothing items and collectables like knives, guns and bullets are all items that can be personalized.  Plus they allow the retiree to proudly display, in many different forms, their proud military heritage.  Something they are especially proud of, as most who serve in the military never make it to retirement due to injury or death.

Other items that would make good corporate gifts are as follows:  jewelry boxes or jewelry rolls, valet trays, Ipod or CD cases, serving trays, plates or bowls, wine and chocolate lover gift sets, signed retirement frames, card playing sets, personalized poems and smoking accessories like cigar boxes, Zippo lighters and cigar with flask combos.  Also gift baskets come in a huge variety sure to please even the most discriminating.  Plus golfing accessories like a divot tool and ball marker, shoe bags and shadow boxes help them to pursue their hobbies.  Finally wine gifts like:  carafes, crystal glasses, stoppers and totes are a thoughtful addition to any wine lovers collection.

These gifts can all be personalized which turns and ordinary gift into something that is truly memorable.  Plus these gift ideas are not only appropriate but also help the retiree to pursue other interests and hobbies while showing appreciation for all their hard work.

As you can see, corporate gifts don’t have to be boring and meaningless, they can be memorable and cherished, just like the gifts the retiree is sure to get from their co-workers.  If the gift is something you wouldn’t appreciate or use, then chances are the retiree won’t either.  Gifts that fit into their lifestyle and give them something to look forward to are the best retirement gifts.  Good luck and as always Happy Shopping :-)

Appropriate Retirement Gifts For Golfers

Friday, July 10th, 2009

There is a commonly-held belief that golf is a pastime and sport of entrepreneurs and businessmen. It also has the reputation of being exclusive and elite and not being accessible to ordinary blue collared workers. However, this is not really true, since modernization and commercialization have brought this so-called elite sport into the realm of normal people.

This is because you don’t need to buy expensive equipment to play. Unlike big game fishing or polo which require a lot of resources - a boat or a horse respectively - golfers just need a set of golf clubs, which are reasonably affordable these days. Bearing this in mind, retirement gifts for golfers and aspiring ones are more easily thought of.

Personalized retirement gifts to personalize golfing equipment is very simple. You could easily make personalized gifts by embroidering such items as golf club pouches or caddy covers. These can be knitted, if you are a knitter or by any similar craft which may use other materials.

A good idea is to think about the fashions of golfing which means to focus on the things worn by golfers. You may even be able to set a new trend in golfing apparel by using your lively imagination and an interesting design for your retiree.

Things to Consider When Giving Out Business Gifts

Monday, June 15th, 2009
Giving gift is one way to thank and appreciate others. Different different people, organizations and events giving out gifts with different reasons and purposes. In business industry, giving business gifts is a great way to maintain the relationships with employees, partners, clients and customers. Giving gift is not only limited to special events, such as birthdays, anniversaries, etc. A simple kind of gift can make a difference. It can show different sentiment, like recognition, appreciation, thanks and it gives a special feeling to the recipient.

Business gifts are given for several reasons and purposes. You can give one as a recognition gift to a deserving employee for his or her job well done, to thank a loyal client, to strengthen or build relationships, to encourage continued business, and many more. Giving gifts is one ideal way to enrapture employees, partners, clients and customers.

Choosing the right business gifts is fun, but can be challenging at the same time. Choosing business gifts is fun in the sense that you will have an extra room where to place your own personal touch and creativity. And challenging in the sense that with so many great choices to choose from, it can be challenging to choose the right one. Choose a gift that will complement the person you are giving it to. Beside giving a gift that matches your recipient, it should be appropriate for business setting too. The process of finding what to give becomes a lot easier when you know exactly the person you are giving it to. You can have a greater chance to make your recipient happy and a better way show how he or she really mean to you.

There are thousands of business gift options to choose from, and your first stop where to find these items will be in online specialty stores. Today, there is immeasurable online businesses where almost all of our necessities are available and can be easily purchase. Many savvy consumers prefer online shopping because it’s a lot more convenient than shopping in local retail stores and local malls.

There are several consideration you have to take into account when giving out business gifts. Avoid those that may offend the person you are giving it to. If you are giving a gift to a client, know first the company your client is working for (if he or she has one) because there are some companies that have rules in receiving business gifts from others. Or maybe you can get some hints through short conversations, this is one way to know what kind of stuff is appropriate and most probably appreciated.

Also, always remember that it’s not just the clients who deserve to be thanked and appreciated. Don’t forget the people behind the scenes, like assistants. They don’t usually get recognition for their work, and will greatly appreciate your effort.

One of the most popular trend of business gifts today are personalized business items such as engraved business card holders, corporate mugs, business pens and other office desk accessories. Of course, always in season the business gifts basket. You may also give personalized cufflinks or engraved wrist watch to some who will be retiring from service. The option and purpose of business gifts are so many. It’s all up to you on how to pick wisely the right one.

Retirement Gifts For Golfing Enthusiasts

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

There is a common belief that golf is the normal pastime-cum-sport of big shot entrepreneurs and businessmen. It is also perceived as being an exclusive sport and not accessible by regular blue collared employees. However, this is not the reality as modernization and commercialization have brought these so called elite sports into the reach of ordinary workers.

This is because there is no necessity to buy expensive equipment to have a round, so, unlike big game fishing and polo which require very costly resources like a boat or a horse respectively, golfers only require a set of golf clubs, which are reasonably affordable. With this in mind, retirement gifts for golfers and would-be golfers can be easily dreamed up.

Making personalized retirement gifts for golfers is quite an easy task as you can easily personalize your golfing equipment with things such as home made golf club pouches, and caddy covers and ball cleaners. These can be knitted or made using any handicraft requiring other materials.

Another idea is to think about the fashion aspect of golfing which is to focus on the things worn by a golfer. You may even start a new trend in golfing apparel just by having a good imagination and using a timely combination of clothing design for your retiree.

The Best Retirement Gifts Often Come From Co-workers

Thursday, March 19th, 2009
Retirement is not only a big transition in the retiree’s life it is also a time of celebration and happy memories.  When trying to find the perfect retirement gift one must pick something that fits into their lifestyle, helps them pursue hobbies and enjoy their new found freedom.

Look for gifts that are original or suggest your ideas to other co-workers for more expensive items.  Remember that the company also gives retirement gifts and depending on how well the company values its employees is usually a pretty good indicator for the kind of gift the individual will be receiving.  Items like:  awards and plaques, ornaments, paperweights, valet key fobs, desk clocks, luggage tags, passport holders, mugs and even pen sets are all very nice personalized retirement gifts, don’t get me wrong, but lets face it, they are all rather generic and may or may not be used or displayed by the retiree.

However thoughtful a gift may be, it’s always best to find items the retiree can use and will appreciate.  That’s why a retiree generally appreciates their co-workers gifts over the gift they receive from a company.  Some companies do however go above and beyond and will give stocks and bonds which is something every retiree can appreciate even if they are a novice.  Other companies have been known to give timepieces, crystal decanter sets or even big ticket items like timeshares or club memberships in recognition of years of service.

Giving the retiree something to look forward to in my humble opinion is the best gift to give.  Tickets to an upcoming concert, play or sporting event can be very exciting; also I found a getaway vacation booklet that lets the retiree pick their vacation.  Other items can include golfing accessories like: divot took and ball marker, shoe bag, personalized golf balls, golf shadow box, or valuables pouch.  Even fishing gear and hunting gear can be given and if you’re unsure as to which item they will want, a gift certificate is always appreciated and is not as impersonal as some people may think.  Better to let the retiree pick the item they really want then to give them something they’ll end up returning or worse already have.

My second favorite kind of gift to give for retirement is anything that can be personalized yet still fits into their lifestyle.  There are so many gift choices out there it’s hard to list all of them here.  Here are just a few unique ideas that are memorable, fun and sure to be used and appreciated.  A poker chip set for those who love to play cards, folding beach chairs or towels for relaxing at the beach,  a throw blanket for lounging or sitting in front of a fireplace, wine carriers or totes, bar signs for the game room or home bar, crystal glassware, stemware and decanters sets to add the finishing touches to any home bar, an engraved guest book plate, T-shirts, sweatshirts, hats, a vacation booklet full of vacation ideas to keep entertained during those retirement years and even a framed retirement poem are some of the items I found when looking online which are all available in a wide variety of styles, colors and themes to fit all personality types.  I even found gift baskets full of bath supplies, wine, beer and coffee along with a neat record recorder that allows all those baby boomers to record their favorite records onto a CD.

With so many choices out there it’s hard to pick just one.  I always check out any company I find on the internet through the BBB (Better Business Bureau) for my own piece of mind.  Plus I like to do repeat business when shopping online as some companies give a repeat customer discount and best of all with gas prices the way they are I can shop in the privacy of my own home and have the gift delivered to me or the retiree saving me gas, time, and stress.

If the office has decided to go in on a gift together be sure to include your input as well as consider other ideas, then decide on the best choice for that individual.  When trying to find the perfect gift you can be rest assured that you’ll never go wrong if you buy a gift that the retiree wants, can use and will enjoy.  A few well placed questions can be all the inspiration you need to give a great gift that will be both memorable and treasured.  Happy Shopping :-)

Retirement Gifts: Marking the Departure From Work Schedule

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

Has a friend, colleague or someone from your family retired from work? If you are a nodding to a ‘YES’, then gifting him or her something could be a perfect idea for making retirement enjoyable. These gifts can be given to a person when he or she has attained retirement so that they could enjoy their life ahead. These bequests could be anything from new glass-frames, rocking chair, or any other thing that could make their life ahead more comfortable. It is to be noted that the choice of retirement gifts should be taken in consideration of the interests as well as hobbies of an individual.

To locate retirement gifts, you can look around in the shops nearby your home or even go online to pick gifts. In today’s fast-paced lifestyle, wherein hardly anyone has enough time to spend ample time in the shops shuffling from one to the other, online accessibility does offer a perfect approach to avail these gifts. Retirement gifts are usually given in the farewell parties that are thrown in order to mark the departure from the hustle-bustle of work into the life wherein you could live life as per your choice.

In fact, in the recent years the emergence of online services providers for retirement gifts has seen a drastic increase. The huge number of online services providers on one hand gives a tough time to the customers in selecting one, and on the other offers a wide range of variety to choose from. Go online, and search through the internet for options of retirement gifts, wherein you would get a long list of services providers. It is advisable to scan through the various options presented by them, and then make your decisions. These gifts can be personalized as well as unique in accordance to your particular tastes.

Yet another advantage of making a purchase online for these gifts is ‘cost-effectiveness’. This is possible owing to the fact, that there is an on-going competition amongst the online services providers to out-do the other, which can lead you find affordable prices for gifts.

Fit For Retirement

Monday, July 14th, 2008
What do you do with a man who decided to begin distance running competitively at 65 years of age, then went on to set track and field records, some of which still stand, and won five gold medals in international competition?

What do you do with a man who still works tending beehives and processing honey despite his age?

What do you do with a man who at 105 years of age drives or walks-depending on the weather-from his home to the post office and then to his business office six days a week?

If you want to be able to enjoy longevity and productivity like he does, you study him! And studying Waldo McBurney of Quinter, Kansas just became easier because he has written and recorded his life story in a new audio book called, “My First 100 Years!” According to the Audio Publishers Association, McBurney holds another record-the oldest person to narrate their audio autobiography.

With wit and wisdom, he chronicles his childhood and early life, college years at Kansas State University where he earned a degree in horticulture in 1927, his working life as an entrepreneur, manager, and laborer, and the role that faith, family, exercise, and nutrition play in his positive attitude toward life. In fact. He covers 21 areas of life that need balance and attention if longevity is to be yours. But at the same time, Waldo is quick to point out that while it has worked for him, your mileage may vary. “Lifestyle is more important than genetics,” he says. “We don’t get to choose our parents, but we can choose how we live and what we eat.”

Reviews for “My First 100 Years!” are a testament to the motivating nature of McBurney:

“What a treasure! I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this wonderful story! It was like being transported back to a simpler time, where country schoolhouses, daily farm chores, and personal responsibility were the norm for the day! Waldo’s detailed picture of hard work on the family farm in the early 1900’s, and his reverence for a wise and thrifty Mother who could run circles around Martha Stewart encouraged me to count my blessings and to appreciate the modern day conveniences we so take for granted. With gentle humility, and a wonderful sense of humor, Waldo McBurney challenged me to examine my priorities and see life through his valuable filter of wisdom and life experiences. He shares a wealth of his own health and fitness information, which has motivated me to dust off my own running shoes, and think twice about what I eat. If you are a runner, know a runner, or are just interested in knowing the secrets to a long and successful life, this man’s fascinating story is a MUST HAVE! I guarantee that you will be inspired and encouraged as you listen to this story of the youngest centenarian you will EVER meet!” ~A.Ibe-Boise, Idaho

“…we don’t just read about McBurney’s life, we hear it directly from him. In slice of life segments, we’re treated to a portrait of a man who filled his life with work, faith, family and fun. A beekeeper and medal winning runner long past the time others have given up both work and sports, McBurney recounts his adventures…a mixture of autobiography, philosophy, advice on healthy living and eating. A story of encouragement, faith and hope.” ~Author’s Choice Reviews

So if you’ve been wondering what to give a recent retiree, or need a Christmas gift for anyone in that age group, Waldo McBurney’s book could help add years to their lives. Free gift-wrap and free shipping from the publisher’s Web site www.audiobookman.com from now until Christmas.
